Assault Mechs are the fourth category of Mechanized Infantry Unit to appear in the Steel Goliaths series. Assault Mechs are designed to be the spearhead of a military's ground forces and are usually supported by other types of Mechs, particularly Heavy and Support Mechs. Assault Mechs are usually used for the breakthrough and front line assault roles, much like Heavy Mechs. Assault Mechs are known for their excellent weapon loads and extremely tough armor, but they have sub-par top speeds and maneuverability. Assault Mechs have top speeds between 50 and 80 kp/h, weigh between 95 and 120 tons, and are equipped with heavy armor and weapons. Military forces keep sizable fleets of Assault Mechs, though they are generally less than other types of Mechs.
The first appearance of Assault Mechs in the Steel Goliaths series was in Steel Goliaths, which was released in 2016. Since then, Assault Mechs have become a staple of the franchise.
A total of eleven Assault Mechs appeared in the first game upon its release. Since then, plans have been made to add more Assault Mechs through DLCs. However, eight other Assault Mechs were scrapped before the game released.
