Outload is a multiplayer third-person shooter video game designed by George Alder, developed by Morisoft and published by NINE100 Studios. It was released on September 1st, 2020 for the Anima and Microsoft Windows. The game is exclusively an online multiplayer game, consisting of an array of characters, maps and game modes. The is primarily set on Earth, although reality has suffered several disruptions.
The game is class based, with characters belonging to one of five different classes: Assaulter, Defender, Runner, Support or Wildcard. Assaulter characters are generally jack-of-all-trades, with balanced health, speed and damage. Defender characters have much more health than other characters, although trade-off speed, preventing fast traversal. Runner characters are designed for fast gameplay, with higher speed allowing them to get across the map very quickly, although have lower health as a result. Support characters generally take a back seat role, providing buffs to allies and debuffs to enemies, such as changes to base stats. Wildcard characters are all fully unique, not fitting into any class to allow for large amounts of experimentation.
Outload was first launched to play in a closed alpha state on PC on October 2nd, 2018, requiring an invite that could be received after signing up on the Outload website. Eventually, the alpha was fully opened to everyone on March 5th, 2019, which was done to give the servers a bigger test and to allow a wider array of feedback from players. During the open alpha, the developers were acquired by NINE100 Studios, who supported the development of the game via NCS DevAid. On February 25th, 2020, the game entered it's open beta stage, and was also made available on the Anima for the first time. With the servers and online infrastructure now being handled by NCS, the net-code and connectivity was far more effective. The PC and Anima open beta continued until the games full release on both platforms.
