The M2A4, officially the Light Tank, M2A4, is a light tank that appears in Fall of Nations. Used briefly by the United States and United Kingdom during World War II, the tank only saw limited combat in Guadalcanal, India, and Burma against the Japanese. Developed in 1938 to fit the U.S. Army Infantry's requirements for a gun tank, it was quickly phased out of service and replaced with the M3 Stuart line of light tanks.

"The Light Tank, M2A4 'Stuart' is an American light tank used in North Africa and the Pacific. It saw limited service due to it's light armor and weapons, which made it an easy target for more powerful Axis tanks."
― In-game description.

In Fall of Nations, the M2A4 is known as the M2A4 Stuart and is the first of several light tanks used by American and British forces during the Second World War.

Alternate History[]

The M2A4 was put into mass production in 1938 to further supply the United States' military while the M3 Stuart and the M3 Lee tanks were still being tested. When the United States entered the war, M2A4s were in service with the Army and Marine Corps in North Africa and the Pacific. During their service in North Africa in late 1942, the M2A4 proved more than capable of dealing with most early German and Italian armor, with the S.Pz.I and the S.Pz.II being exceptions. However, during Operation Torch, the M2A4 proved ineffective against newer German tanks such as the Panzer III, the Panzer IV, and the S.Pz.III. British troops who served with American forces nicknamed the tank the "Stuart," which was later adopted by the U.S. military.

In the Pacific, the tank saw much greater success in American hands against Japanese armored vehicles. However, with the advent of vehicles based on German and captured American designs challenging American tanks, the M2A4 was phased out of U.S. service in the Pacific by late 1942. All M2A4 Stuarts in North Africa were retired by February of 1943. Surplus M2A4s found their way into the hands of multiple clandestine organizations and China. Most retired M2A4 Stuarts returned to the U.S. mainland where they were either kept for training or scrapped. Some training M2A4s fought with American forces during the Axis Invasion of the United States. The British had about 40 M2A4s in Burma and India until they were replaced by newer British and American vehicles in 1943.
